Galleries or individual photos

TOP

Galleries
99% of all the images on localphoto.com.au are associated with groups of photos we call galleries. Galleries can consist of two photos or in excess of 150 photos and are made up of either published and/or unpublished photos. Galleries can be searched from either the Home page or Galleries page. Any results from searching galleries will not only display how many photos are in these galleries but a few selected photos from that gallery to give you an idea of what to expect in that gallery. Clicking on a gallery will take you to the individual images page where you'll be able to browse all the images from that gallery.

Individual photos
All the photos on localphoto.com.au can be searched and viewed from the Individual images page. Individual images are displayed with such information as the file name, the date the photo was taken, the name of the photographer, whether the photo was published and if that photo is part of a gallery, along with a link to that gallery. To take a closer look at individual images, simply hover mouse over the desired image to display a larger version.

What is the search form?

searchGalleries
The search galleries form.

This is where you enter search information such as the date the photo you’re looking for was published or taken, the associated McPherson Media Group newspaper or magazine, the name of the photographer, and any key words for narrowing the search results. On localphoto.com.au we have two search forms; the first is used to search Galleries, which can be found on both the Home page and Galleries page; and the second is used to search for individual images on the Individual images page.

Searching for published photos.

TOP

When searching for published photos you need to first select the ‘Published on’ option on the Search form.

When searching for published photos it’s important to know the publication date of the photo and select that date in the ‘Date’ options in the Search form. If you only have an approximate publication date, tick the ‘Entire month’ check box which will return all galleries or individual images from that month.

If you know the publication title and the photographer’s name, these options can by used to narrow your search results. If you don't know the name of the photographer perhaps you can jog your memory by having a look at the our Photographers page.

Published images are loaded onto localphoto.com.au with the caption text that was printed along with the photo, but the caption is not visible on the website. However, if you enter one, two or more words from the caption in the publication into the ‘key words’ field on the Search form, this will aid in narrowing your search results.

When you've found the published photo you’re looking for, you can also view any unpublished photos as per instructions below.

Searching for unpublished photos.

TOP

You will need to select the ‘Taken on’ option on the Search form when searching for unpublished photos.

To find unpublished photos it's best to know the date or appoximate date that the photo you're looking for was taken. If you only have an approximate date, we recommend you use the Gallery page to search. Enter the date you think the photo you’re looking for was taken, then browse the results for a gallery with the name of the event. We don't recommend using the entire month option as an entire month of unpublished images can be in excess of 8,000 photos.

If you know the photographer’s name, this option can by used to narrow your search results. If you don't know the name of the photographer perhaps you can jog your memory by having a look at the our Photographers page.

Tip: If you don't know the date an unpublished image was taken but know when a photo from the same event or shoot was published, try searching for the published photo as it will display the date and a link to the day it was taken.
